I recently took a short 1 week trip to New Zealand South Island with some friends from medical school. Due to our residency training requirements and the difficulty in coordinating our leave, it is extremely difficult to go for a longer trip. Still, we managed to visit a few of the best places on South Island. A few of our friends have asked us for our itinerary, so here it is!

Just over a month ago, I embarked on an epic road trip along the western end of the States to celebrate my graduation from medical school. My first stop was Yosemite National Park, where I spent 5 days marveling at nature’s wonders.
My friend, Samuel (pictured) and I spent our first day marveling at the majestic landscape and forestry along the lower Yosemite Falls trail… in preparation for our hike up the Upper Yosemite Falls the next day
We embarked on the Upper Yosemite Falls trail on our second day. I did not bring along my DSLR for this grueling 800m ascent, which is a decision I live to regret given the views at the top.
Yet another day of hiking – we conquered Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls on our third day in Yosemite.
On our fourth day, my friends and I were a little bored of seeing trees and mountains, so we headed to the nearby Bass Lake to try our luck at fishing. Atas, luck was not on our side, but it was very enjoyable to just sit by the lake side and enjoy an ice cold beer.
It is not hard to see why this is perhaps the most iconic view of Yosemite National Park, especially during sunset, where the setting sun lights up the icons of the Park
Here I am, gleefully throwing away my identity as a medical student. 5 years of medical school passed by in a flash, and in a blink of the eye, I have graduated. I wished time hadn’t passed so quickly.
Friends and fellow batchmates (and now colleagues) of the Class of 2017: all the best and may we never forget why we chose this profession in the first place.
Earlier in May this year, I took a 2 week long solo trip to Spain and Portugal. I covered quite a few places – Barcelona, Seville, Madrid, Porto and Lisbon – with some day trips from each major city. In this post, I document a summary of my travel experiences in Portugal. You can read more about my travels in Spain in Part 1.

Earlier in May this year, I took a 2 week long solo trip to Spain and Portugal. It was a much needed getaway before I embark on my final year in medical school, and probably the very last “long” trip before graduation. I covered quite a few places – Barcelona, Seville, Madrid, Porto and Lisbon – with some day trips from each major city. It will probably take me forever to process all the photos taken on this trip and to write about my experience in detail, so this brief summary of my trip would suffice for now. This post summarizes my travels in Spain, you can read about my experiences in Portugal in Part 2.
